A CLEANER WAY TO COOK
For the longest time, I didn’t think twice about what I was cooking with. I just wanted to be in and out of the kitchen as quickly as possible. But as I started shifting into a more intentional lifestyle — becoming more aware of all the hidden toxins in our everyday routines — I realized that what I cook with matters just as much as what I cook.
So much of wellness starts in the home — and one of the most overlooked places is the kitchen. Which is kind of ironic, because it’s where we spend so much time creating meals to nourish ourselves and others.
Once I started reading and learning more about conventional cookware and the materials it contains, I knew I needed to start making changes. But it wasn’t an overnight overhaul. It was slow, intentional — a step-by-step process. I researched, read labels, and looked into brands that aligned with my values. And over time, I upgraded the tools I use every single day.
What I Look for in Cookware:
Non-toxic materials (no PFAS, PFOA, lead, Teflon, formaldehyde, BPA, or heavy metals)
Ceramic or stainless steel
Products that are well-designed, long-lasting, and easy to use
My Go-To Non-Toxic Brands & Swaps:
Caraway: My everyday favorite. Their ceramic cookset is easy to use and even easier to clean. I’ve heard great things about their bakeware and food storage sets too.
Our Place: Another beautiful, non-toxic option. I’m also eyeing their air fryer — perfect for busy days when I want something quick and healthy.
Other small swaps I’ve made:
Bamboo cutting boards and silicone/bamboo kitchen utensils
Glass mixing bowls and storage containers instead of plastic
Glass or silicone straws
Non-toxic bamboo paper towels
Natural dish soap & non-toxic dishwasher tablets
Unbleached, gluten-free baking paper (I use this almost daily)
These changes might seem small, but they’ve made a big impact. I spend so much on organic food — it only makes sense to be just as intentional about how I prepare it. Knowing that I’m not cooking with materials that could leach chemicals into my food gives me peace of mind.
Wellness, to me, isn’t just about eating clean or moving my body — it’s about being educated, aware, and making conscious choices that support long-term health.
If you’ve been curious about non-toxic cookware or are just starting to think more holistically about your home, let this be your gentle nudge. You don’t have to do everything at once. Start with one item — maybe the pan you use every morning or your go-to baking tray — and go from there.
