ALLOW YOURSELF TO PIVOT
Something I don’t agree with in today’s world is the judgment placed on people for job-hopping. There’s this misconception that frequently switching jobs is a red flag or signals a lack of commitment. But honestly, I see it differently. Job hopping can take a lot of courage and adaptability — qualities that show you’re growing, evolving, and expanding your skill set. It’s about seeking new opportunities that align with your path, not just settling because of what society expects.
The idea that employees need to stay with a company for 5+ years to be seen as “loyal” or “committed” is outdated. We live in a time where everything is moving fast, and career paths aren’t always linear. Sometimes, moving on is the best way to grow — both professionally and personally.
If you're feeling stagnant or like you’ve hit a roadblock in your current role, it’s okay to explore new opportunities. In today’s work world, many employees are feeling this same sense of limitation, especially when it comes to advancement within larger organizations. If something isn’t lighting you up anymore, why stay?
Of course, before making any decisions, I always encourage having an open conversation with your manager about your growth potential. Ask about opportunities for skill development or new projects that could reignite your passion for your role. But if nothing changes, don’t feel like you have to stay out of obligation.
One piece of advice I always give is to make sure you’ve secured your next role before leaving. Nobody wants to be in limbo — especially in today’s economy. But remember, your career is yours to create. It’s about making choices that align with your values, growth, and what brings you joy.
So if you’re feeling unfulfilled or stagnant, give yourself permission to pivot. Seek out opportunities that excite you, challenge you, and offer the chance to learn and grow. Life is too short to stay stuck in something that doesn’t feel right.
It’s your journey. You have the power to make it what you want.
