THE PRACTICE OF SHOWING UP FOR YOURSELF

We’ve all heard it: to see results, you need to stay consistent. But let’s be real—consistency isn’t always easy, especially when your motivation is nowhere to be found and your to-do list just keeps getting longer.

When it comes to career growth, the real shift happens when you stop waiting for motivation and start leaning into discipline. Motivation is great when it’s there, but the truth is, it comes and goes. Discipline? That’s what gets you from where you are to where you want to be.

It’s not about being perfectly motivated every single day (because, honestly, who is?). It’s about showing up—even when you don’t feel like it. Discipline is what builds momentum. It’s what allows you to make progress on your goals, one intentional step at a time. And over time, those small steps add up to big results.

And here’s the thing: every time I’ve chosen to show up for myself, even when I didn’t feel like it, I’ve felt more accomplished, more clear, and more aligned. That energy carries into every other aspect of my life too.

Whether you're job hunting, building your own business, or trying to step into a leadership role—discipline is the foundation. Without it, there’s no consistency. And without consistency, there are no results.

Some days, the energy might not be there. But even on those low-energy days, doing one small thing—updating your resume, reaching out to a connection, finishing that presentation—keeps the momentum alive. The real growth happens on those days when you’re the only one showing up for yourself.

Because the truth is, no one is going to achieve your goals for you. That’s why it’s so important to stay focused on your own path, your own timeline, and your own growth. When you give yourself the space to focus inward—to really be with your goals—you start to move with more clarity and intention.

I always recommend setting time aside every day—even just 10 or 20 minutes—to take one step forward. It doesn’t have to be huge. It just has to be significant to you. That consistent energy compounds over time, and the more you commit to yourself, the more confidence you build.

I also believe in celebrating the small wins—something I never used to do. Whether it’s treating yourself to your favourite coffee after a productive morning, buying fresh flowers at the end of a busy week, or just pausing to say, “I’m proud of myself today.” Those moments matter.

It’s easy to get discouraged when results don’t show up right away. But don’t let that stop you. Just because you don’t see progress immediately doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Stay in it. Trust the process. Show up again tomorrow.
