WHY I DONT DO BOTOX & WHAT I DO INSTEAD
Lately, I’ve had a few girlfriends ask me about my skincare routine, and what I do to get a nice, natural glow. One of my girlfriends even thought I had Botox done – but I haven’t. It’s not that I’m against Botox or any other treatments (everyone should do what feels right for them), but I’ve personally chosen a more natural, holistic route. For me, it’s about consistency, intention, and what I put in and on my body — and I can honestly say it’s made such a difference.
Botox contains toxic ingredients that can block the lymphatic system — something I personally try to avoid. I’ve also come across unsettling stories of women experiencing adverse reactions, and even cases of Botox poisoning, which to me just isn’t worth the risk. But this post isn’t about what I don’t do — it’s about what I do. The daily rituals and practices that help me support my skin, and cultivate a glow from the inside out.
Here's a glimpse into what’s been working for me lately:
I’m mindful of what I put in my body: I eat clean, focusing on organic foods and grass-fed meats raised without antibiotics. This has made such a difference in my skin — especially after struggling with acne throughout my twenties. I make sure to get enough protein daily and load up on leafy greens and veggies. Avoiding dairy, gluten, refined sugar, seed oils, and gums has also helped smooth my skin’s texture and reduce blemishes.
I hydrate all day long: At least 3L of water, sometimes more. I’m particular about my water — I use a filtration system at home and avoid plastic bottles when I’m out. I opt for glass bottles whenever I can to avoid the chemicals found in plastic.
I avoid chemicals in my everyday routine: From laundry detergent to body wash, hair care, and perfume, I’ve made the switch to natural products. I used to use fragranced products, but once I learned about the ingredients in them, I stopped. I also no longer wear conventional perfumes — they give me migraines — and now I use natural scents made from essential oils.
I use red light therapy before bed: This has been such a game-changer for my skin. It helps promote collagen production and reduces the appearance of fine lines. In the morning, I use my gua sha tool to help with lymphatic drainage and depuffing. It also gives my face a more lifted and sculpted look — I’m obsessed.
I try not to wear makeup every day: Most days, I’ll just apply a good tinted SPF after my skincare routine and let my skin breathe. When I do wear makeup, I opt for clean beauty brands that align with my values.
I stay consistent with my workout routine: Movement is a non-negotiable for me. I’ve been working out six days a week for the past few months, and I feel stronger and more energized than ever. I also take daily vitamins and supplements like Vitamin C, D, Omega-3s, collagen, and NAC to support skin health, energy, and overall wellness.
I’ve made my home as toxin-free as possible: I’ve swapped out conventional cleaning products, cookware, and even bedding. It took a bit of time and research, but it’s made such a difference in how I feel — and it gives me peace of mind.
I’m super diligent about sleep: I go to bed and wake up at the same time every day — even on weekends. I aim for 8–9 hours of sleep a night, and it’s been a game-changer for my skin, mood, and energy levels.
I make it a point to get outside every day: Even if it’s just for a walk with my dog. Feeling the sun on my face, breathing fresh air, and staying connected to nature helps me feel grounded and clear.
So that’s my approach! It’s all about being mindful and treating my body with care. I’ve noticed such a positive change in my skin, mood, and overall health after making these adjustments in my life. All of these things add up and make a huge difference, and I truly believe it’s important to do your research when it comes to what you put in and on your body. Taking the time to find what works for you — from skincare to diet to lifestyle choices — can really pay off in the long run.
